Maks Jeugd: Activities during school holidays and on Wednesday afternoons

Capital Digital is an introductory programme in coding and new technologies for children aged 8 to 12, organised by Maks vzw.
It aims to make learning about digital technology accessible and fun by developing logic, creativity and critical thinking. It is mainly aimed at children from disadvantaged neighbourhoods and introduces them to programming through engaging activities.
In 2024, 10 internships were organised during the school holidays, in French and Dutch. Each week, two courses were organised simultaneously: one in Molenbeek and one in Anderlecht. Each session was based on a compelling theme, such as Harry Potter, Back to the Future or Spionage, which served as the common thread for the activities. For example, in Harry Potter, the children programmed an interactive magic wand with Micro:Bit, and in Spionage, they created coded messages.
The children used tools such as Scratch, Scottie Go, Lightbot, Minecraft Education, Tinkercad for 3D printing and Micro:Bit for physical programming. Non-connect activities were also used to explore the basics of coding without a screen.
The week ended with a presentation of the projects to the parents.
A total of 298 children participated in the internships in 2024, confirming the success of Capital Digital and the importance of offering digital activities that are accessible to everyone.
